Requirements for Firefighter Applicants
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, have vision corrected to 20/20, and must be a citizen of the United States.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Entrance Exam (score must be at least 70)
- In-depth Background Investigation
- Physical Ability Test
- Physical Exam (must satisfactorily pass after offer of employment)
- Drug Screen (must satisfactorily pass after offer of employment)
- Treadmill Evaluation (must satisfactorily pass after offer of employment)
Open House Recruiting (meet and greet, demonstrations & information sharing)
Location: Fire Admin, 720 S. Highland Ave.
Dates: October 21 and November 18, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Physical Agility Test
Location: Fire Station 1, 440 E. Chester Street
Dates: October 25* and November 20* at 8:30 a.m.
*Note: these dates are pending HR's availability and may be adjusted
Pre-Hire Written Examination
Location: Fire Admin, 720 S. Highland Ave.
Dates: October 28 at 6:00 p.m and November 20* at 9:00 a.m.
*Note: Nov. 20th written examinations will be administered immediately following successful completion of the PAT
Lateral Entry Fire Fighters do not have to take a written exam
MINIMUM Qualifications for Lateral Entry Firefighters: Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications and at least 180 hours of Basic Firefighting Training through an accredited program.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS – must be filed with application:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
- Birth Certificate
- Photo (full face)
- DD-214 (if applicable)
- Firefighter I and II Certificates (if applicable)
- Basic Firefighter Training Certificate (if applicable)
