Resumes are being accepted for City Council Seat, District Four

Jackson, Tenn. – The Mayor's Office is accepting resumes to fill the unexpired term of the late City of Jackson District Four Councilman Harvey Buchanan. Buchanan served his district for over two decades.

In accordance with the Charter of the City of Jackson, TN, “A vacancy in the office of a council member shall be filled by appointment of a qualified resident of that district by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of those who are present and voting. All persons appointed to fill vacancies in accordance with the provisions of this section, except the mayor, shall serve until the next regularly scheduled municipal election. The election to fill a vacancy shall be held in accordance with the provisions for a regular council seat.”

Those seeking to apply for the position must meet the requirements by the State of Tennessee (https://madisoncountytn.gov/226/Qualifications-for-Office) and must be a resident of District Four in the City of Jackson, TN (a copy of the district map can be found at http://citycouncil.jacksontn.gov).
