JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson, TN welcomes Aaron Hardin in the role of Director for The Carnegie Center for Arts and History.

Hardin received his Master of Fine Arts from the Hartford Art School International Limited Residency Program in 2016. He previously served as the Associate Professor of Visual Communication at Union University.

Hardin began his career as a photojournalist for The Jackson Sun in Jackson in 2009, going on to work as an independent artist and teacher. His work has shown throughout the United States, including Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, New York, NY, and Santa Fe, NM. Hardin’s work has also shown in galleries internationally, including Berlin, Germany, London, England, and Havana, Cuba.

"The Carnegie is such an important place in Jackson history. Many of our community members checked out their first library book here; were married in the atrium; or learned about Carl Perkins for the first time in the museum space,” said Hardin. “I'm excited to join Becky Fly and Rodger Jowers in making our hometown museum a place for all residents to learn, grow, and be inspired by the art and history of our region."

Hardin’s accomplishments include the Magnum Photography Fine Art Award (2016), the Photolucida Critical Mass Award (2017), a Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Emerging Artist Award (2016), and the Pew Research Grant from Union University (2019). He published his first book, The 13th Spring, in 2021 with Fall Line Press and is a contributor to The New York Times.

"We're thrilled to have Aaron Hardin join our team as the Director for The Carnegie Center for Arts and History,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “With Aaron's passion for the arts, I look forward to the implementation of his ideas for the venue."

Hardin currently lives and works in Jackson, Tennessee with his wife, Alice, and daughters, Josephine and Phoebe.
