Jackson-Madison County Children's Cabinet Officially Launches to Enhance Child Wellbeing in the Community

JACKSON, Tenn. – Leaders in the Jackson-Madison County community announce the official launch of the Jackson-Madison County Children's Cabinet. The launch event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024, at 9:45 a.m., at the Le Bonheur Children’s Outpatient Clinic in Jackson, TN.

Since its inception in February 2023, the Children's Cabinet, led by the County Mayor, City Mayor, and School System Superintendent, has been working to create a cross-sector collaborative body focused on improving outcomes for children, youth, and families. The official launch signifies a significant step forward in the community's commitment to enhancing the overall well-being of its youngest members.

After an extensive review of data and collaboration with various stakeholders, the Jackson-Madison County Children’s Cabinet has identified four key priorities for its inaugural year:

  • Improve housing stability for children and families.
  • Decrease incidents of youth violence and crime.
  • Increase access to high-quality child care and early education.
  • Improve mental health outcomes for children and caregivers.

County Mayor, A. J. Massey, states, "The launch of the Jackson-Madison County Children's Cabinet represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to address the complex challenges facing our community's children and families. This collaborative initiative underscores our commitment to data-driven solutions and a unified governance approach."

One of the unique strengths of the Children's Cabinet is its inclusive governance structure, with representation from the County Commission, the City Council, and the School Board. This collaborative approach will improve coordination and collaboration among the three bodies and emphasizes the shared responsibility of all community stakeholders in nurturing the well-being of children.

City Mayor, Scott Conger added, "The Children's Cabinet is a strategic step forward in our continuous pursuit of improving outcomes for children and families.
